Description

Antique silver patina effect for any of our silver memorial jewellery pieces (click here), a free VIP custom add-on. This is perfect for necklaces and rings, though the effect might not stay on our beads and flat pieces.

The Aesthetic

A little magical final-touch for your keepsake and memorial jewellery. Antique effect patina for silver gives a time-worn look that’s perfect for vintage style pieces, anything with texture and it’s perfect for adding depth and definition. Make your inclusions shine brighter.

Gothic and Alternative

A great finish for a necklace, bead core or a dangle charm or a solid silver ring:

  • For Textured Pieces: The dark “patina” antique effect settles into the recesses of your jewellery, the lower bits on the crown points, the hammered ring band, the textured setting. It’s great for tree bark effect rings and it leaves the high points shiny. So much of our pieces are handmade from scratch and this is a great way to show off real silver

  • Victorian Mourning Jewellery – Gothic Pieces: Our antique silver patina is great for anyone with a witchy vibe, alternative and emo looks or looking for goth jewellery. The crown point range of dangle charms, necklaces and  rings looks epic with the blackening. Many of our simple bezel rings can be upgraded to crown point, no extra charge

Freebie for All Our Silver Jewellery

This is a complimentary customisation service that can be added to any silver jewellery. You’re getting a bespoke experience and a piece that’s even more rare and special. Nikki’s personal favourite ring stack is a blackened solid silver twisted ring band with a rose gold heart accent combined with a rose gold filled classic stacking ring with her blood and her partner’s “alternative inclusion” liquid.

Practical Info

This is the most important bit because this isn’t a factory-perfect finish, it’s applied by hand and the liver of sulphur is an accelerator for the natural oxidation process, mimicking how silver tarnishes on its own over time—just much faster and more evenly. It can still come off, but it’s a traditional coating which doesn’t use artificial heavy chemicals. It’s saft for wear; the patina created is chemically inert, much like the patina found on vintage items. Some jewellers use hot boiled eggs for the sulphur but we use a liquid activated with hot water that’s similar to the sulfurous, mineral-rich, hot springs used for traditional spa bathing, so it’s vegan-friendly.

    • The High Points: Will polish back to bright shiny silver over time and we usually start this process with a silver polishing cloth

    • The Low Points: Will remain dark, and can be darkened with a black Sharpie pen at home if you want it even deeper

    • The Result: The jewellery gets more beautiful and unique the longer it is worn

Essential Care Instructions

Your jewellery has been finished with a specialised warm oxidation, like natural hot springs, to create depth, shadow, and a vintage gothic aesthetic. This is a “living finish,” meaning it will evolve as you wear it.

What to Expect Over time? Friction from your clothes and skin will naturally polish the “high points” of the silver back to a bright shine. The “low points” (crevices and texture) will stay darkened. This contrast adds to the unique character of your keepsake.

How to Clean

  • Do: Gently polish the high spots with the silver polishing cloth we sent to maintain the shine.

  • DON’T: Never use jewellery dip or an ultrasonic cleaner. These harsh chemicals or strong vibration can strip the antique effect instantly, returning the piece to plain whitish silver.
