Sending Without A Kit

All new orders include the cost of a sending kit (click here for info) but these are sent every week or so. If you’d prefer not to wait or you’re sending urgently for a last minute, pre-arranged birthday or wedding order, you’re welcome to send without a kit.

Don’t send it all in case it’s lost in the post or we need you to send more!

Please scroll down for posting/return in person instructions.  You can order directly through a funeral home or crematorium and they can make all the arrangements for you and send in your loved one’s hair or ashes.

Cremation Ash Jewellery

adult and pet ashes

  • Label all bags and pots with your full name and order number in Sharpie (click here)
  • We promise to return any amount that is unused
  • The best thing to use is a small sample pot like this (click)
  • Chemists like Superdrug often sell travel kits with small 5ml plastic screw top pots which are ideal, also clean lip balm tins are great if you wash one first with washing up liquid (dish soap).
  • Double bag in a good quality small plastic Ziploc style snack bags
  • Quarter of a teaspoon/a large pinch is plenty for most pieces (half a teaspoon for a family order and we can always request more if necessary)
  • Ashes from two or more people and pets can be combined in a pot or in two different pots (we don’t charge extra to use a little of both in one piece)
  • Tip: Sit in the middle of a made bed so you can pick up any specks of ash that fall

Please do not order if you are unable to access your loved one’s ashes due to family wishes and sealed containers/urns. We are unable to cancel an order because an urn is sealed shut so please check first. A crematorium or funeral home may be able to help you unseal an urn and take out the ashes needed and you may be able to order directly through them

baby ashes
If you are sending in your baby’s ashes we require even less, just a tiny pinch per piece, at most a quarter of a teaspoon. See our baby memorial jewellery page here for more info and a gallery.

Don’t send it all in case it’s lost in the post or we need you to send more!

  • Do not use sticky tape/Post-It notes as the hair will stick and be unsuitable for use
  • Tie the hair/fur with a little bit of cotton to keep it together
  • To check quantity, send a picture using a penny for scale on our Facebook page or by email to info.treeofopals@gmail.com
  • Hair/fur from two or more people and pets should be sent in two different little labeled bags (we don’t charge extra to use a little of both in one piece)

Don’t send it all in case it’s lost in the post or we need you to send more!

umbilical cord and placenta

Just one piece of your cord stump, 1cm of dehydrated cord or one capsule of dried placenta is enough. Do not send the whole cord, just cut off a piece the size of an orange pip, please use a small pair of scissors to remove a little at the end. Place it in the labelled pot then bag and return according to the instructions in the box.

  • Label all bags and pots with your full name and order number in Sharpie (click here)
  • We promise to return any amount that is unused
  • The best thing to use is a small sample pot like this (click)

  • An orange seed size amount is plenty of cord stump for most pieces (or half a capsule of placenta powder)
  • Cord/placenta from two or more babies should be sent in different labeled pots (we don’t charge extra to use a little of both in one piece)
  • Tip: Sit in the middle of a made bed so you can pick up any specks of cord that fall
  • Tip: do not send the cord clip, use a pair of scissors to carefully cut a little off for us

stillborn baby umbilical cord cord and placenta
We have more instructions on our baby memorial jewellery page that help you to know what to ask for. It’s important that anything we work with doesn’t have formadehyde or other chemicals on it, and that cord and placenta are frozen ASAP. You can show your midwife the page and gallery or the people who are caring for your baby after they have passed away. It’s important that you please ask for this before they use chemicals because we would have to decline your order if they have which can be devastating, because you would need to dry the piece before sending which would be very dangerous for you!

Don’t send it all in case it’s lost in the post or we need you to send more!

You must add your full name and order number to all elements to adhere to our strict procedure for keeping elements separate!

Posting

    • When you confirm you have read these instructions, and tell us about how you have packaged your elements, we will add the address to your order. Log in at My Account and click on the order number to view your notes. Contact us if you have any trouble logging in
    • Use a padded envelope or parcel box like these
    • All responsibility for sending lies with you, but we’re happy to advise. There is always a risk of items getting lost in the post so please only send a portion of your elements (e.g. half a lock of hair) and keep the other half. If your item is not labelled it might not be marked as received and you will need to send again
    • It is your responsibility to check your account to make sure we have received it
    • Tip: designate what you’re sending as “Jewellery Making Item” (you may struggle if you are too specific about what you’re sending!)

Within UK
We recommend you use Special Delivery and give us the tracking number. Again, don’t forget your full name and order number on the elements (not on a separate letter/bit of paper that can get separated from them)

International clients
Please choose whichever service you would like to use. If the services you use requires a signature please let us know when it may arrive so we can make arrangements to receive it. For customs you are sending “jewellery making items”, which is the truth, but you may struggle to find a suitable provider if you are more specific. Please do not give a value of more than one dollars etc otherwise we will need to pay import duty (VAT) and we will decline the charge and the parcel would be returned – your elements are extremely valuable but not expensive! We have had many clients send breastmilk etc with a “value” of hundreds of dollars, by the time it gets through customs and duty several weeks later, it arrives too rancid to use.

USA – You don’t need to spend more than around $14.25USD with USPS. Please do not pay $30+ because it doesn’t arrive any sooner and it makes no difference!
