Blood Necklace Guide: Keeping Them Close To Your Heart
Choosing a professionally-preserved Blood Necklace that’s high quality and safe to wear can be tricky, we’re here to offer you a choice of styles.
A Deeply Personal & Permanent Bond
Blood jewellery can help you keep your loved one’s life essence with you at all times. We preserve it safely and hygienically to ensure it stays beautiful and can be kept for life. Whether that’s in a gothic crown point heart or a subtle solid gold round necklace.
The Symbolism Of A Blood Necklace
Ok, it’s not the most traditional token of love or devotion and although it’s growing in popularity, it’s still very niche and unique. A blood necklace can be deeply romantic or even symbolic of a D/s relationship. Giving someone a token with your blood is a powerful symbol or you can even wear your own blood to remember your strength and resiliance. A blood necklace can represent a blood oath or even be a way to memorialise a friend, lover, family member, baby or pet after they pass away.

The Science & Expertise
We don’t just add liquid blood to anti-coagulant, because these methods often include formadehyde and the blood inside the vial necklace can be toxic. If the seal breaks, the blood will spoil and it can be harmful if the chemicals come into contact with your skin. We use dried blood, little flecks of reddish black, which we add as flecks or grind into powder.
We can match the colour of fresh blood with our Dragon’s Blood Red pigment, or an older and darker red, sometimes with blacks. We usually add bello opal in similar shades so the pieces sparkle or you can choose a flat pigment with translucent alcohol ink or opaque acrylic colour.

The Chemistry: We work with dried blood to stop it rotting inside the jewelry. We don’t accept blood that has been mixed with anti-coagulants because those don’t stop the decomposition, it must have been dried within a few days of removal, or frozen in the meantime
- Safety: Our artists work with full PPE and have training in BBV’s. Our equipment is single-use or sterilised with chemicals or heat
-
Teaching: Our owner, Nikki Lovegrove is an expert in blood jewellery who teaches other jewelers how to preserve biological materials at Keepsaker Supplies.
-
Longevity: Our method keeps the piece stable and beautiful for years to come, with no risk of spoiling or hazard to health. Just follow our care instructions to keep your piece looking its best.

The Aesthetic of Blood Jewellery
Our pieces are either poured directly into the setting or formed into a cabochon stone within a silicone mould, that’s then set within the precious metal. We offer solid silver, gold filled and hallmarked solid gold settings. The standard chain length is 18″/45cm but we’re proud to be size inclusive and can offer any length at all.

How Does It Work?
We can mix blood with other elements like hair, ashes, or breastmilk for a complex DNA keepsake. We’ll send you a kit with a sterile wipe, lancet (to draw the blood) and a pot to add it to and dry it in. You could send blood dried on fabric or cotton if you prefer. We’re based in Bath, Somerset so you can arrange an appointment to bring it in person or just post it.
We’re a small business specialising in high quality resin-set gothic designs. See our Blood Necklace listings for inspiration.
