Placenta Jewellery: A Tribute to The Body’s Ultimate Miracle
The placenta is the life-giving organ that keeps your baby alive, it’s often called the “Tree of Life” (and part of our name Tree of Opals). Placenta jewellery honours this amazing connection you and your baby shared.
The “Tree of Life” Keepsake Art
The placenta is a temporary, miraculous organ grown by your body to nourish your baby and provide it with oxygen and everything it needs to grow:

The Keepsake Concept: Placenta Jewellery is a deeply meaningful way to honour a baby’s birth, a surrogacy journey, or to welcome a baby. These days, many parents choose to encapsulate their placenta for postpartum recovery, so by saving just a tiny bit of that powder we can create gorgeous jewellery for you
Placenta Jewellery: How It Works
It is crucially important that you only send us professionally preserved placenta! Whether that was done by a trained placenta encapsulation specialist or you followed a tutorial at home, we ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ACCEPT RAW TISSUE. Different health boards have different policies on requesting your placenta and it’s something you need to discuss before baby is born to ensure that chemicals are not added. You shouldn’t use placenta that has had chemicals added for jewellery making and ESPECIALLY NOT CONSUMPTION.
It doesn’t matter if the TCM (traditional chinese medicine) method to cook it first before drying or it was dried from raw. Both methods work for jewellery and we only need half a capsule or a small piece of dried placenta before grinding, a piece the size of a thumbnail is usually enough. We’re planning a video on preserving placenta from frozen specifially for jewellery!

Nikki used the raw method for Hannah’s, this brass necklace above was the first piece she made in 2015, and she took it on This Morning. We take the fine powder and incorporate it in a high quality Japanese UV resin to keep it perfect forever. The sparkle options for an encapsulated placenta keepsake are unlimited and it’s set into precious metal or black ceramic settings.
The Aesthetic: Colour and Shimmers
Placenta powder takes on a deep rosy red colour in resin. It has flecks of black, brown, reds and pinks. We can keep the classic placenta colour or add unlimited variations of other inclusions and colours. You can match your style with rose gold leaf or
You can combine inclusions in a single piece! A popular choice is combining placenta powder with the umbilical cord stump, baby’s first curl (especially with vernix from the day they are born), colostrum and breastmilk and baby’s birthstone. We offer free birthstones and engraving so you can add bub’s date of birth, their birth location geographical coordinates, which we can give you if you show us the specific location on GoogleMaps, their weight or a baby engraving phrase or poem.
The Logistics: Safe and Simple
Our sending instructions are here and we only need half of a placenta capsule or a thumbnail size piece of fully dried placenta for any placenta keepsake. We’ll send you a kit about a week after you order with lableed pots and a QR code tracking system. Any unused placenta is returned! Or you can arrange an appointment with us for our workshop in Bath or meet Nikki in South Wales.
Nikki on This Morning
Nikki has been teaching others to make placenta jewellery since 2015. In 2017, Nikki was on This Morning with Holly and Phil! Holly was so kind and said she’d have loved a piece of my breastmilk jewellery if she’d still had some in the freezer and said how beautiful the placenta necklace Nikki had made for her baby was. The team on the day were amazing, especially the make-up artist who gave Nikki some advice that started me on my journey to leaving unhappy situation.
