Ordering Tree of Opals Hair Jewellery
I am a skilled artisan who specialises in creating stunning memorial hair jewellery. I have been making these pieces for almost ten years and passing on my skills to others. I teach memorial jewellery making for a living these days but offer a few custom pieces here on Tree of Opals. These pieces are always handmade with scrupulous attention to detail and care. Making memorial rings, necklaces and beads is very special for me and I think it shows in my work:

DIY Hair Pieces: A Personal Touch
Making your own lock of hair jewellery is a very personal and healing journey. It allows you to infuse your piece with special meaning and unique craftsmanship. The process is very easy and I have lots of YouTube tutorials here. Here’s an easy way to get you started:
Materials:
- Hair of your choice (human or pet fur)
- Jewellery findings (rings, necklaces, bead cores etc)
- DIY kit, all of our findings come as a kit
- Etsy – if you prefer to buy on Etsy, all of my jewellery settings there come as kits
- A UV lamp or pen light
- Tweezers (optional)
Instructions:
- Choose your design: Visualise the finished piece. Think about the colour, shape, size, and overall aesthetic.
- Create the base: Colour your resin, add it to the setting following the tutorials for hair and fur
- Embed the hair: Carefully arrange the hair within the resin mould or jewellery setting. Experiment with different swirls and patterns.
- Cure the resin: Follow my instructions for curing time and conditions, depending on the jewellery.

Tips:
- Hair diversity: Explore the uniqueness of different kinds of hair and fur, lengths, texture and colour. “White” hair is usually transparent!
- Creative combinations: Incorporate dried flowers like forget me nots, cremation ashes, or other meaningful inclusions such as birthstones or gold leaf.
- Protective coating: Seal your finished piece with a clear resin coat to protect its beauty and durability.
Caring for Your Hair Jewellery:
Follow our care instructions here whether you order from us or make your own. To keep the beauty and longevity of your hair jewellery, you will prevent yellowing and scratching:
- Avoid harsh chemicals etc: Keep your pieces away from heat, liquids and UV damage. Avoid bleach, hair dye, fake tan and other chemicals!
- Correct storing: Keep them in a specific jewellery box or sealed bag to prevent damage and scratches when not in use.
- Gentle cleaning: Wipe it gently with a soft cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. Don’t use cleaning products please
