Trainee Shipping Manager

As a trainee shipping professional in this jewellery wholesale workshop, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our products reach our customers on time. Alongside preparing shipping invoices and package contents for our loyal customers, you will work with an owner and supervisors who are dedicated to your success.

The right applicant will be working alongside artists who create jewellery from unique materials such as cremation ashes, milk, and hair. Sensitivity to our bereaved clients is of utmost importance, and we are committed to maintaining a respectful and understanding environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate with team members and customers about orders awaiting shipment and stock creation
  • Print invoices that reflect the contents, pricing and destination for application to each package that is shipped
  • Confirm that the invoices reflect the correct information
  • Check that each order is fully paid before sending
  • Participate in preparing packages for delivery by prepping contents and creating additional orders for backordered stock
  • Weigh parcels and apply shipping online with Royal Mail OBA and Parcel2Go etc.
  • Check that customs information is honest and accurate
  • Write handwritten notes on invoices so our customers feel cared for
  • Print and apply shipping labels and print manifests for the Royal Mail collection
  • Add tracking information to WooCommerce WordPress website
  • Do stocktakes so that stock levels are correct and new stock can be ordered by your supervisor
  • Manipulate sophisticated shipping software to document and track each order to estimate arrival, keep track of orders shipped and verify when an item has been delivered
  • Collaborate with colleagues to find solutions to issues that may arise with delays, damaged product or backordered items
  • Create labels and package stock items
  • Maintain an inventory of packaging products including labels, boxes, envelopes, bubble wrap and packing tape
  • Answer the telephone and direct client enquiries – please note, you may speak with bereaved clients looking for memorial jewellery so empathy is crucial

Job Skills & Qualifications

Reqiured:

  • You will need excellent maths, English and IT skills 
  • Knowledge of spreadsheets (Google Sheets proficiency is a bonus)
  • Able to navigate websites and software quickly
  • Good typing speed and knowledge of using keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+C etc.)
  • Ability to meet pressing deadlines with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Superior organisational and documentation skills
  • Honesty and punctuality

Preferred:

  • Experience using label-making software and packaging orders
  • Knowledge of Royal Mail’s Click and Drop service
  • Familiarity with WordPress and WooCommerce
  • A sense of creativity and artistic flair 
  • Some knowledge of jewellery making such as jump ring opening would be a bonus (we are also looking for a silversmith)

Working Hours
You will be working 10 hours a week, over two days. Either Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday, or Wednesday and Friday. Hours may be increased over time as needed and promotion with further training to Shipping Manager.
