Why We’re Making Breastmilk Jewellery Again

At the end of 2018 I decided to stop making breastmilk jewellery. I was going through a strange time in my life; in a good place with my mental health and really enjoying life, I wanted to take a small step back from my business. Breastmilk jewellery has always made up around half of our orders so rather than taking a break from the website and business as a whole, I stopped offering them. I’ve really missed creating pieces with milk and making breastmilk jewellery again is such a passion of mine.

Mental Health
I’m in a much stronger position than I have been for several years now. I did a course of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and learnt that I am a great mum, wife and someone who is trying their best. I have had so many setbacks and it got to a point where I worried that too much on my plate would put me in a bad place again. A few years ago I tried to commit suicide and I never want to feel like that again. There’s no “cured” for depression, but feeling more able to cope now that we’ve caught up with orders has given me a new perspective.

Small Business Income
As a working mummy I was lucky to be able to take a break for a while and just offer memorial jewellery. Now I want to be able to help more with our family’s bills. When you order from a small business, it’s always appreciated! Making breastmilk jewellery again is going to help put food on the table.

  1. Thank you for sharing your story and for having the courage to speak up and speak out about your depression. Many of us get overwhelmed at times and need encouragement, support, love and understanding. While we may not be available 24/7, in your country, state, city or community I would hope that if there should come a time where you need to vent, cry, share or pray that some one reading your blog/posts would find it within themselves to step up, reach out or simply just listen; whatever’s within our power to help lift your spirits. Count me in!
