Breastmilk Jewellery Care

Breastmilk jewellery care is fairly easy because resin is pretty hard-wearing (most breast milk pieces are cast resin). To get the best out of your pieces and ensure they last a lifetime please try to adhere to the following advice for breastmilk jewellery care. This will keep your pieces looking their best and save you having to pay for the resin to be repaired.

Find out how long your breastmilk artist will store your unused milk for, here at Tree of Opals we keep around 7ml of our clients’ breastmilk in the freezer for at least two years! If possible we recommend you keep a little pot of milk in your freezer too especially if your feeding journey is coming to an end.

Scrapes
Try to avoid bumping and scratching or sleeping in your resin jewellery. This could damage your jewellery piece. If your piece has an accident, pop us a photo and we will give you some advice. We can to repair or recast for a fee, including pieces from other makers.

Abrasives
Don’t use any polish on your resin but you may use a microfibre, chammy or silk cloth to polish it.

Water
Do NOT submerge your pieces in water. Resin is NOT water proof, only water resistant. So please remember to remove your breastmilk jewellery care before showers, swimming, washing up etc.

Sunlight
Store your jewellery out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the resin to yellow or discolour and soften.

Smoking
If your piece is in regular contact with smoke it may discolour.

Chemicals
Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. This includes perfume, hair spray, cleaning solutions, nail polish remover, antibacterial hand sanitiser etc.
